Revise electoral rolls, poll panel tells Assam | India News

GUWAHATI: The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the Assam election department to conduct a special summary revision of electoral rolls following the delimitation of assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
EC conducted the delimitation exercise and released the final report on August 11. Despite revising the names of one parliamentary and 19 assembly constituencies, the number of assembly and Lok Sabha seats remains at 126 and 14, respectively. An EC statement said 19 assembly and two Lok Sabha constituencies were reserved for STs, while SCs were allotted one parliamentary and nine assembly seats.
EC has underlined that within the newly delimited constituencies, electoral registration officers (ERO) must carry out thorough pre-revision activities and ensure 100% physical verification through field operations .
As a result of the delimitation, new polling stations will be established, and existing ones will need to be aligned with the updated constituencies. Accordingly, the voters’ list will be prepared on the basis of the new arrangements, the state’s chief electoral officer (CEO) Anurag Goel said.
The entire process will rely on software assistance, which means that both online and offline submissions of forms have been temporarily halted until November 30, he said.
