NEW DELHI: Jharkhand’s ex-chief minister and JMM chief Hemant Soren on Thrusday, moved Supreme Court challenging his arrest by ED in money laundering case.
A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra has agreed to consider the plea of the former Jharkhand chief minister on Friday.
Soren expressed his concern about the timing of his arrest just before the general elections, stating that it has an adverse impact on the country’s political landscape.
Senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, representing Soren, informed the apex court that the leader intends to withdraw his plea from the Jharkhand High Court regarding the matter.
Soren was taken into custody on Wednesday night following his resignation as the Jharkhand chief minister. State transport minister Champai Soren, a loyalist of the party, was named as his successor.
The arrest came after a lengthy seven-hour questioning session by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the case.
