Odisha to get allocation of 1463 MW more power from NTPC

BHUBANESHWAR: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is now allocating 933 megawatts (MW) of power to Odisha from its existing thermal power plants. After commissioning of its upcoming and completed projects, Odisha will get 1463 MW of power in the coming days.
Sudip Nag, regional executive director (eastern region I and II), said this while addressing media persons here on Thursday. He said two major projects- NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station and NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project- have been completed. Prime minister Narendra Modi, during his Sambalpur visit on Saturday, will dedicate these two projects to the nation.
Modi will also lay the foundation stone of NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project stage -III, another important power project of the company. All three projects will come up in Odisha with an investment of Rs 28,978 crore, said the official sources.
Nag said Darlipali super thermal power plant located in Sundargarh district is a pit-head power station with high-efficient technology. It will supply low-cost power to its beneficiary states. The 250 MW project of NSPCL Rourkela project is established in Rourkela Steel Plant to provide reliable power for the steel plant which is vital for economic growth, he added.
He said the company is developing Talcher Thermal Power Project Stage-III within old TTPS Plant premises in Angul district, which was taken over by the NTPC from Odisha State Electricity Board in 1995. “The old TTPS plant was decommissioned after completing more than 50 years of service to the nation,” he added.
Nag said highly efficient ultra-super critical technology will be used for the upcoming plant. It will be approximately three times the capacity of the old TTPS Plant. “This project is being constructed with all modern environmental features. Besides creating direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region, the projects have contributed to improvement of physical infrastructure and many community development initiatives,” he added.
He said the NTPC is also producing green energy in the form of solar power. “By 2032, NTPC aims to become a 130 gigawatt firm,” he added.
In eastern region-II, it has five thermal power stations and a solar power plant at Kaniha in Angul district.
