BJP benches Firozabad MP, fields son of former MP | India News

AGRA: BJP on Tuesday named Thakur Vishwadeep Singh as its candidate for the Firozabad seat, replacing incumbent MP Chandrasen Jadon. The decision sets the stage for a compelling electoral contest in the region. Vishwadeep, the son of former MP Thakur Brajraj Singh, brings a legacy to the table, being the offspring of the first MP from the constituency.
Competing against SP candidate Akshay Yadav, cousin of former CM Akhilesh, and BSP’s Satyendra Jain, Vishwadeep steps into the electoral arena with a promise of comprehensive development for Firozabad. The constituency is scheduled for voting in the third phase on May 7.
Having previously contested as a BSP candidate in 2014, Vishwadeep, despite an unsuccessful bid, brings with him experience and a commitment to local welfare. Running various educational institutions and owning a glass manufacturing and export unit, he asserts his deep ties to the locality and vows to pursue an inclusive agenda.
Expressing gratitude to the party leadership for the nomination, Vishwadeep emphasises his harmonious relations with people from all walks of life. “I am not in competition with anyone. My focus is solely on the holistic progress of Firozabad,” he stated confidently.
The electoral history of Firozabad reflects a pattern of intense competition. In 2019, BJP’s Chandrasen Jadon clinched victory over Akshay Yadav by a margin of 28,781 votes. Analysts attributed Akshay’s defeat to the participation of his uncle, Shivpal Singh Yadav, who secured a substantial number of votes.
With a legacy of representation by the SP from 1999 to 2009, the Firozabad seat has witnessed a dynamic political landscape. The by-election in 2009, notably, saw Congress candidate Raj Babbar defeating Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav, signalling the region’s penchant for electoral surprises.
