Supreme Court on Manipur Violence: Two Kuki-Zomi women move SC, seek SIT probe and trial relocation | India News

NEW DELHI: Two Kuki-Zomi women, who were stripped, paraded naked and allegedly sexually assaulted during initial phase of ethnic strife in Manipur, moved the Supreme Court seeking SIT probe led by independent IG rank police official. In addition, they are requesting a transfer of the trial outside the state, citing a lack of confidence in the local authorities.

The Supreme Court bench headed by CJI D Y Chandrachud is scheduled to hear their petition today.
The two women have expressed no faith in the state police and sought security for them while seeking a direction for recording of their statement under Section 164 crpc by the nearest area magistrate.

In response to the state’s request, the Centre has already ordered the CBI probe into May 4 incident. Moreover, the Centre is also seeking the Supreme Court’s approval for the trial to be relocated outside Manipur, with the specific mandate to complete the proceedings within six months. The Supreme Court will also take up the Centre’s application for hearing today.
