SRINAGAR: An army jawan shot himself dead with his service weapon in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday afternoon.

Officials said it was not immediately known why the soldier took his life. Inquest proceedings had been initiated, they added.
In a similar incident on Sunday, a policeman posted with Indian Reserve Police 10th Battalion, Abdul Hamid, killed himself with his service weapon in Rajbagh area of Srinagar city, officials said. Hamid, a resident of Alapora in Budgam in central Kashmir, shot himself at a hotel. He was rushed to SMHS Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

An investigation has been launched.
