JAMMU: Vigilant troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday shot dead an intruder and thwarted an infiltration bid along the international border in Jammu district’s Arnia sector. Later in the day, an overground worker (OGW) was arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for unlawful activities in Rajouri district, a police spokesperson said.

Early Monday, on noticing suspicious movement across the international border in Arnia area followed by an intruder approaching the border fence, alert BSF men gunned down the suspect and foiled the infiltration attempt, said a BSF spokesperson, adding: “The area was cordoned off immediately and a search operation is underway.”
Meanwhile, an OGW identified as Mohammad Shabir, a resident of Draj, Kotranka in Rajouri, was arrested later in the day. “The detention order under PSA was issued by Rajouri district magistrate. A police team headed by SHO Budhal carried out the arrest,” said a police spokesperson.

This was the second arrest of an overground worker under PSA within a week. On July 26, another OGW affiliated with terror outfits was arrested and forwarded to jail. “Many OGWs in the district have already been detained under preventive sections of the law to check their unlawful activities,” the spokesperson added.
