Poor road connectivity: Man carried for 5km to reach ambulance on ‘swing’ | India News

INDORE: A 40-year-old patient was carried on a temporary swing for about five kilometres to reach the ambulance in absence of an all-weather motorable road in Jaitpura village of Katthiwada block in Alirajpur district on Monday. The photos of the incident went viral on social media platforms.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 11 am, when the health condition of Gup Singh deteriorated. His relatives called an ambulance, however, it got stuck on a kutcha road that led to the village.
Despite attempts, the ambulance remained stuck after which the health department sent another ambulance, which also got stuck.

After a long wait, the villagers decided to take matters in their own hands and carry Singh to the ambulance. They arranged for a wooden log, made a temporary swing with a cloth and carried him for around five kilometres to reach the ambulance.
Civil surgeon, Dr Prashant Dhoke told TOI, “The incident occurred on Monday afternoon. Two ambulances went there for the patient but they got stuck in mud and couldn’t reach the village.”
“These are the remote villages in the district without any connecting all-weather motorable road,” said Dr Dhoke.
The residents of over half a dozen villages in the block travel through a road passing through Gujarat. These villagers have to travel for around 25 km to avail basic services like health and education. They have been demanding for roads for decades but never was an all-season motorable road constructed.
