NEW DELHI: Security has been strengthened in the districts adjoining Nuh — Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurugram — in light of the violence that broke out between two groups on July 31. On Tuesday, fresh violence was reported from Gurugram in Badshahpur and on Sohna road.
Six people killed in violence, 116 arrested so far: CM Manohar Lal Khattar
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said six people, including two home guards, have died in the communal violence in the state while 116 have been arrested.
He said that stray incidents of violence reported elsewhere after the Nuh clashes have been brought under control. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals, including at Nalhar in Nuh and Medanta in Gurugram, the Haryana chief minister said, adding that 116 people have been arrested while a search was on to nab the other accused. In a statement, Khattar said as per information so far, six people have died out of which two are home guards and four are civilians while several people have been injured.
The conspirators are being identified, the chief minister said, while promising strict action against the guilty and asserting that the security of common people “is our responsibility”.
On Tuesday, Khattar had termed the Nuh violence “unfortunate” and said the attack on a VHP procession was “well-planned which pointed to a larger conspiracy”.
“The attack was carried out in Nuh in a well-planned manner to disrupt the (Brij Mandal Jalabhishek) yatra. Police were also targeted, pointing at a larger conspiracy,” Khattar had said in a tweet in Hindi.
SIT to be formed, role of Bajrang Dal’s Monu Manesar being probed: Haryana DGP
An SIT will be formed to investigate the cases of communal violence in Haryana and the role of Bajrang Dal member Monu Manesar in the clashes is being probed, state police chief P K Agrawal said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference in Gurugram on Wednesday, the DGP said the situation in the state was under control and curfew has been relaxed for a brief period in Nuh. Gurugram is completely safe and there is no report of any violence. Senior officers have been deployed in Nuh and the police force has been directed to strictly deal with anybody violating orders of the administration, he said.
A special investigation team will be formed to probe all cases of violence. If there was any conspiracy, it will also be investigated and the guilty will not be spared. The role of Bajrang Dal’s Monu Manesar is also being investigated, Agrawal said.
He told reporters that four people have been arrested for allegedly killing the cleric of a mosque in Gurugram.
Organisers did not provide complete information about yatra, says deputy CM Dushyant Chautala
Haryana Deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala said the yatra organisers in Nuh did not provide complete information to the district administration, which resulted in the violence on Monday. Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, the Deputy CM vowed stringent action against those responsible.
“The yatra organisers did not give complete information about the procession to the district administration, which resulted in the violence. Strict action will follow against those responsible for the incident,” Chautala told reporters.
Vishva Hindu Parishad reports death of Bajrang Dal activist
District Vice-President of Vishva Hindu Parishad Surendra Tanwar said during the violence in Nuh on Monday, Bajrang Dal activist Pradeep Sharma was attacked by the rioters and critically injured. He was undergoing treatment at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital where he died, the VHP district vice-president said.
Rapid Action Force conducts flag march in Gurugram
Rapid Action Force personnel conducted a flag march in Gurugram’s Badshahpur early on Wednesday, morning following the clashes that broke out in Nuh district of the State.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Varun Dahiya (Crime), Gurugram said today, “All schools, colleges and workplaces are functioning normally. There are no restrictions on the movement of traffic. The internet is also operational. I appeal to all to not pay heed to rumours on social media. If anyone wants to report any information, they can reach helpline number ‘112’.”
Delhi Police: Elaborate security arrangements made at sensitive places
Security has been beefed up at sensitive places in the national capital in the wake of violence in some districts of neighbouring Haryana, the Delhi Police said on Wednesday.
“Keeping in view the violence in some districts of Haryana, adjoining Delhi, elaborate security arrangements have been made at all sensitive places in Delhi and additional police forces have also been deployed where necessary. “Any attempt to harm Delhi’s security and communal harmony will be dealt with strictly,” the Delhi Police said.
Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad are staging protests across the national capital against the Haryana violence.
Apart from Haryana police personnel, 20 companies of central security forces have been deployed in the state. Three of them have been stationed in Palwal, two in Gurugram, one in Faridabad and 14 in Nuh, Khattar said and appealed to the people to maintain peace.
The Haryana Police on Tuesday said that mobs killed a cleric in a late-night attack on a mosque, torched an eatery and vandalised shops as communal violence that began in Haryana’s Nuh spilled over into neighbouring Gurugram, taking the death toll to five.
