DIBRUGARH: Days after the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) – Ulfa (I) – threatened Assam DGP GP Singh with “dire consequences” when an overground worker of the banned outfit was allegedly injured in police firing in Dibrugarh, two more rebels were wounded in separate suspected encounters in the last 24 hours.

On Sunday, Ulfa (I) linkman Jogen Gogoi, arrested a day earlier for alleged extortion, tried to escape when he was leading a team of cops to show them cash hidden in a forest in Charaideo district’s Sonari area, police claimed. This forced the team to open fire on him, according to the police.
Gogoi is now in a Dibrugarh hospital.He had been admitted after his being arrest that he was for extorting money from businessmen and tea planters in Charaideo at the behest of Ulfa (I) leader Ganesh Asom.

Another alleged firing occurred in Tinsukia district when police opened fire on Jumon Bora (28), an Ulfa (I) overground worker, in Tinsukia district while searching for hidden explosives in a forest.
He was taken to a hospital in Tinsukia.
