“Based on an intelligence input generated by Kupwara Police, a joint party of police and the Army launched a search operation in Kumkadi area along the LoC in Machil sector,” said police in a statement. The joint team noticed the movement of heavily armed intruders and challenged them, following which the terrorists opened fire at the security forces. In retaliatory fire, two terrorists were killed, the statement said.
