MANIPUR:
The NIA on Saturday arrested one Seiminlun Gangte from Churachandpur district of Manipur in a case related to a trans-national conspiracy by Myanmar- and Bangladesh-based leadership of terror outfits to wage war against India by exploiting the current ethnic unrest in the northeastern state. NIA had registered the case suo moto on July 19, 2023 at New Delhi.Investigation of the case has revealed that Myanmar- and Bangladesh-based militant groups have “entered into a conspiracy” with a section of militant leaders in India to instigate violence with an intention to drive a wedge between different ethnic groups and wage war against the government of India. For this purpose, the leadership has been providing funds to procure arms, ammunition and other types of terrorist hardware which are being sourced both, from across the border, as well as from other terrorist outfits active in the northeastern states, to stoke the current ethnic strife in Manipur, said NIA.
The arrested accused, Gangte, has been brought to New Delhi and will be produced before the jurisdictional court, as per an NIA spokesperson.
On September 23, another accused in the case, Moirangthem Anand Singh, was arrested by NIA. Earlier, Manipur Police had arrested him and four others while they were allegedly travelling in a vehicle in police camouflage, and carrying sophisticated arms and ammunition. The police alleged Singh was working as an overground worker of People’s Liberation Army, an outlawed Manipuri insurgent outfit, and had gone basic military training in Chandel.
While Singh along with his four aides got bail later, the former was rearrested by NIA on September 23.
